Kida the Akita
This is Kida, our lovely foster dog. She is an American Akita and 8 years young. When Kida came to us she was very overwhelmed at all her new surroundings as she spent a lot of her life isolated, she was kept in a shed and her coat was filthy and she was generally in serious need of major tlc.
When people see large breeds like Akitas, Rotties, German Shepards, Mastiffs etc they probably think they are more way more hassle than smaller breeds but I can tell you from experience that this is not the case. What you probably don’t see is the unwavering loyalty, love, protection and pride they hold towards their owners and family.
After owning several different breeds of dog, large and small, throughout my life I will never own any breed but Akitas ever again. I was lucky enough to adopt my Akita from DAWG 3 years ago and she is my best bud. I am so lucky to have fostered beautiful dogs that have gotten wonderful families and I am so grateful and happy to see their progress but this girl Kida is special to me. I want her to get the loving family she deserves who will enjoy having her in their company. I want someone to experience all of the same joy that I’ve had with my Akita. I want her to be spoiled rotten through her golden years.
Akitas by nature are scatty off lead so I keep her on harness, by my side at all times but she loves her walk and is so much more well behaved on the lead than my own dogs. She will need a strong handler but a gentle touch. She is spayed and a very healthy, happy dog.
A secure garden is a must and because of her age she would need to sleep indoors all year round. Because of her size and strength she would best suit a family with children over the age of seven, a young couple looking for a companion for their own dog or mature families or couples willing to give her the time and loyalty she deserves. In the time we have had her she has turned from a timid scared dog into a happy, confident one and gets on great with my Retriever and Akita, both spayed females. She is great at meal times, she just eats her nuts with no fuss and like my own Akita she is very gentle taking food from my hand. Someone will get very lucky to have this girl in their lives, trust me, I already know x
