Joey the Lurcher X

Joey is a special 3-year-old Lurcher who has waited a long time to be ready for adoption and is so deserving of a loving forever home. He spent the first two years of his life severely neglected in a shed, and then another year at the DAWG shelter adjusting to normal dog life. He has recently moved into foster care, where he has done magnificently learning to live in a family home with his dog foster-sister.

While not nervous, he is shy and cautious to begin with and will need a home with people who will be understanding and give him the time, space and patience he needs to gain confidence and transition to a new environment. In his foster home, it took him just a few days to learn about stairs, walks through the city, car rides and house training; within two weeks he had fully settled and begun showing the happy, loving, affectionate dog he is inside.

He is a sweet, sweet boy who loves his cuddles and pets, and has discovered that the couch is the best place ever; he can fold himself up into a surprisingly small ball in order to curl up next to you! Joey is absolutely lovely on the lead, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and his only bad habit is reaching his long graceful neck onto the kitchen counters to see if there’s anything good up there!

Joey is quiet indoors and fairly low-maintenance. With access to a secure garden, he needs only one moderate 15-minute walk a day and the chance at a longer run to stretch his Lurcher legs a couple of times a week. He is currently fostered in the city centre and has adapted well to urban living. Therefore, he could suit either a slower-paced person looking for a very loyal companion or a more active family who wanted to take him on adventures.

Joey would benefit from a home with another dog to show him the ropes, and a person with the time to devote to help this special boy adjust and blossom. Children over 5 as he can be boisterous when playing outdoors; a cat-free home might be best as he has never lived with a cat and is not cat-tested.
