WELCOME TO CORK DOG ACTION
WELFARE GROUP |
| Cork
DAWG is an organisation founded and
run completely by a network of volunteers concerned with the welfare
of abandoned, abused
and
ill-treated dogs in Cork.
Through our collective experience we aim to improve
the lives of Cork's dogs and also endeavour to educate the public
on dog welfare and dog ownership.
To
do this, we need your help....

NEWS
FLASH - 663 DOGS REHOMED IN 2009.
|
|
| Finally a
Happy Ending for Blackie and Scruffy Blackie and
Scruffy are almost famous now. Just like our Shadow and Sam of last
year. Both sets of dogs waited a very long time to be rehomed. We
were determined in each case that the dogs would get homes together
as like Shadow and Sam, Blackie and Scruffy were the very best of
pals and had been through all their tough times together. We are
so happy to share the news that Blackie and Scruffy now have a wonderful
home in the UK. Their new Mum Anne reports ' Scruffy and Blackie
(we now call her Maggie) are both fine. Every morning approx 8.30
I take them both over to the park for a long walk, throwing the
ball for them which they love and the exercise is good for me aswell!
Every night they have slept so well even the first night, I have
now bought them 2 large dog baskets which is much better for them.
They are both currently sat at my feet as I am writing this email
and Maggie won't take her eyes off me for a second!'. Thank you
so much to Anne and her husband for giving these two wonderful characters
a second chance. Also a special mention for Karen who never gave
up on them and took them to her home every weekend for a walk on
the beach with her own four dogs and gave them plenty of love and
cuddles and reassurances that one day they will find their forever
home.
Samson,
Jillys (see below) hungriest little boy. Absolutely shattered after
devouring some of his feed from a bowl. He was so greedy he hopped
in to eat and promptly fell into a deep sound sleep. He didnt have
enough energy to climb out of the bowl!! The puppies are over 3
weeks old now, developing their own little personalities and thriving!

JILLYS
STORY Jilly
was found wandering the roads very tired and very pregnant (see pic!!).
She was huge and very slow on her feet. It took us a while for her
to be caught as she was so scared and wary but eventually we got her
into a lovely foster home. Late 3 nights ago little Jilly went into
labour. It proved a difficult labour as Jilly is small and was very
big. We didnt know if there were a lot of puppies in there or just
a few big ones! Finally Jilly needed a section, she produced 7 healthy
babies! Jilly has turned out to be the most amazing mother. She is
extremely protective of her brood and wont leave their side, yet she
doesnt mind her foster mum handling them or helping her out from time
to time. We all agree the Daddy must be a collie as t hose
babies resemble little mini collies. Jillys puppies wont be ready
to be rehomed until at least 8 weeks old and Jilly will be looking
for her forever home once her babies are weaned. Jilly will need a
calm loving home where she will live indoors in quiet surroundings.
She deserves a lot of love. We think she is about 2 years old and
there is defintitely some lab in her, but its hard to tell. She has
the most soulful eyes that could tell us a tale or two. Please keep
Jilly in your thoughts. She has been through a traumatic time but
once her mothering duties are over she will be looking for her special
forever home as will her brood! Special thanks to foster Mum Carole
for being there for Jilly in her time of need. We will keep you updated.
